Financial inclusion

  • 2016
Challenge

Prospera is a cash-transfer social assistance programme in Mexico. However, many of the 32 million eligible beneficiaries do not take full advantage of the available services.

Insight

According to the principle of timely prompts, if people are given reminders at the right time, it can help them to take action.

Approach

We worked with Prospera on two trials: one to encourage changes in financial behaviour directly and indirectly, and another to encourage support at the time of migration through text messages.

Result & Impact

Training and incentivising banking agents was most effective in promoting financial inclusion.
