One windy day last September, I found myself standing in a barn near Milton Keynes, watching people eat pork pies. The reason? The BBC had asked us to run an experiment based on our research that people greatly under-report what they eat, and that the problem is getting worse over time.
We already know it’s affecting our national food consumption figures (as the Office for National Statistics admits). Those numbers depend on people remembering what they ate throughout the day. For this documentary we wanted to find out if people could remember what they had eaten just two hours before – a much easier task, you might think.
But was it? You will have to tune into The Truth About Obesity on BBC One at 8pm tonight to find out.
