Getting around is a crucial part of our lives – whether for work, travel or to see family. That means people make transport decisions every day, many of which are habitual and hard to change.
At BIT, we have experience in shifting behaviours across many modes of transport, including car use and mass transit. Safety has been a particular focus, whether in terms of limiting distracted driving, reducing dangerous driving behaviours, or de-escalating conflict on public transport. We’ve also looked at how to shift patterns of demand for transit and encourage people to use car shares and bike shares.
We partner with departments of transportation, commuter rail and bus systems, and bike and ride sharing companies. We have made cities safer by slowing drivers’ left-turn speeds through low-cost street changes, co-created solutions to reduce rail network fatalities and curb distracted driving among teenagers, and increased uptake of bike sharing programs.
