Ben Szreter

Senior Policy Advisor to the CEO

Ben is BIT’s Senior Policy Advisor to the CEO. He supports BIT’s CEO across the full range of policy areas BIT works on and manages BIT’s central contract with the UK government.

Before taking on this role, Ben was a Policy Advisor working across BIT’s home affairs and international programmes. In this role he worked on projects across security, defence, policing, justice, social cohesion, conflict, decarbonisation and interventions and evaluations using video and audio content. This work was in the UK, Eastern Europe, Nigeria, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Before joining BIT Ben worked in Parliament as a researcher, as Chief Executive of a community-based charity in Cambridge and on UK trade in Myanmar. He completed an MSc with distinction in Economic and Social History and a first-class BA in History from Oxford University. He was also part of a team who jointly won the IPPR Economics Prize in 2019.

Ben was elected as a Policy Fellow at Cambridge University’s Centre for Science and Policy in March 2022 and also outside of his work at BIT holds hold board positions as an independent commissioner on climate change for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and as Trustee of The Albion Foundation, a football-based charity in the West Midlands with more than 70 staff.
