The Behavioural Insights Team – a social purpose company

4th Feb 2014

After three and a half years in Number 10 and the Cabinet Office, today the Behavioural Insights Team is being ‘spun out’ of government and set up as a social purpose company. We will continue to work for the Cabinet Office, which will be our first and principal client. But we will now start to build on the growing portfolio of work that we are undertaking across the UK public, private and charitable sector and with foreign governments and international organisations.

The company itself has three owners: the employees, the UK government, and Nesta (the UK’s leading innovation charity). Nesta were the winners of a highly competitive process to become the team’s join venture partners, and we’re delighted to have them on board.

It’s a hugely exciting time for the team, and a reflection of the growing importance that organisations in the UK and overseas are giving to insights from the behavioural sciences. So we’d like to take the opportunity in this first blog post as a new company to thank everyone in the Cabinet Office and Nesta who has made it possible.
