‘Should we pay to improve health behaviours?’ with Katy Milkman

If I offered you 10p to walk 1 mile would you do it? What about £500 to quit smoking? Could payments be exactly what we need to do the things we know we should be doing anyway? This session looks at the most recent large-scale evidence of when such incentives work and when they don’t. We discuss what makes for an incentive programme and the equally important question of ‘should we be paying people at all’?

Professor Katy Milkman of the University of Pennsylvania Dr, Marc Mitchell of Western University, Dr Mitesh Patel of the Penn Nudge Unit and Kieron Boyle of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity discuss incentives at BX2019.
